This workshop offers practical tips for video recording yourself in your learning environment. Topics include lighting, sound, video settings, camera stability, and framing. Participants watch examples from other educators, record themselves with their own smartphones, then practice revising their methods. This workshop also covers easy to use editing programs on phones and desktops, as well as uploading video files for sharing via Coaching Companion and/or other sites.

Dinner and a Movie: “Babies” with Equity Discussion

This session features a movie night and discussion that providers can invite their families to attend. The film “Babies” is a documentary chronicling the day-to-day lives of four babies from around the world and savors the wonders of the first year of life. The discussion is on early childhood development and cultural influences.

Involucrando a las familias para apoyar el desarrollo social y emocional de los niños pequeños

Módulos de capacitación para los padres de familia, Pre-K. Ésta es una sesión interesante e interactiva que presenta materiales para padres de familia que son fáciles de usar y que al mismo tiempo están basados en evidencia de investigaciones desarrolladas por el Centro para los Fundamentos Sociales y Emocionales del Aprendizaje Temprano, CSEFEL (“Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning”) por sus siglas en inglés. Esta experiencia promueve el aprendizaje e identificación de estrategias que pueden ser usadas para apoyar las interacciones y los comportamientos positivos entre padres e hijos. Los participantes aprenderán sobre el rol esencial que juegan las familias y otros importantes proveedores de cuidados en el enfoque Piramidal, así mismo tendrán la oportunidad de compartir información e ideas sobre cómo involucrar a las familias durante las visitas al hogar, las reuniones grupales y durante las conversaciones individuales con respecto tanto al desarrollo socio-emocional como a las necesidades de apoyo a la conducta de sus hijos o hijas.

The DLL Communities of Practice (CoP) aims to create a reflective and collaborative space where monolingual and bilingual providers bring their challenges and successes in supporting dual language learners and families. Participants are encouraged to bring videos of their DLL classrooms, DLL tools they are currently using, or questions for a group of like minded providers.

This session guides participants into thinking how science, technology and engineering (STE) ideas can be connected to everyday routines DLLs do with their parents. Participants first learn why everyday routines are an ideal way to teach DLLs. Then participants are provided with different examples of how STE ideas can be seen in everyday routines. Finally, participants reflect on everyday routines of the children and families they serve and how they can collaborate with parents of DLLs to deepen their children’s understanding of different STE ideas.
The Leadership Challenge
Speaker: Soleil Boyd, Director of Coaching and Professional Development, Cultivate Learning
The goal of this practical, hands-on workshop, is to inspire, engage and help individuals develop skills needed to meet whatever leadership challenge currently exists or lays ahead! The core content of this session is structured around five practices that make exemplary leaders. Participants reflect on their learning at the institute and leave with a plan in hand for taking the key learnings back to the workplace - prepared to implement new leadership practices!
Understanding and Promoting Social and Emotional Learning in Young Children (Preschool)
Speaker: Rebecca Cortes, Research Scientist, Cultivate Learning
Promoting social and emotional learning (SEL) in early learning practices addresses equity by providing all young children with life-long skills that create opportunities for all types of learning and optimal mental health. This session provides educators with direct experience for understanding and assessing 5 core practices that promote SEL: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationships, and decision-making. Participants will experience making connections among SEL, equity, and their practices and designing individualized strategies to promote SEL. Participants will document their understanding and practice to extend learning in their work settings.

Race is an issue that permeates society and even effects our youngest children. Young children notice the cultural and linguistic diversity around them be it in their own environment or through the media. Teachers have an important role to play and influence how young children will grow to understand race and culture. This session will address how teachers can discuss race with young children and how to foster positive identities.

Let’s Play and Talk: Studies Deep Dive

In the Creative Curriculum for Preschool, studies are described as long-term investigations that integrate all content learning and engage children through high interest topics. Using the theories of parallel process, this session designed to give participants the experience of self-directed learning through a variety of open- ended activities. Participants first experience the power of choice and hands-on learning; then, during reflective discussion, we explore the breadth of learning across all domains offered through project-based learning.

El enfoque estará en la construcción de relaciones profesionales auténticas y basadas en principios. “NAEYC reconoce que las personas que trabajan con niéos pequeños tienen que tomar cada día muchas decisiones de naturaleza moral y ética. El Código de conducta ética de NAEYC presenta normas para una conducta responsable y establece un cimiento común para resolver los dilemas éticos principales que se presentan en el cuidado y la educación de niños pequeños.
