Matt Rogan Interview

Introducing Matt Rogan!
Headshot of Matt Rogan
Matt Rogan is the Education Manager at Head Start and Early Head Start in Early Learning. He completed the Certificate in Practice-Based Coaching in 2020.

Q: Tell us a little about yourself. Where do you live? How long have you been coaching? What is your current caseload? How has your job changed over the years?

A: Hello! My name is Matt Rogan, and I am from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I have been coaching for three years. When I was a PBC coach in Head Start, I had a caseload of 12 coachees, in seven classrooms. Now, I oversee, guide and coach the new PBC coach. Also, I provide coaching to my management team who supervise and coach teachers.

Q: What has been a highpoint experience for you recently?

A: When I was the PBC coach, I was very successful. Now that I oversee the new PBC coach, I can share my skill sets, strategies, and knowledge that I learned from the certification program. Now, I enjoy teaching our new coach the strategies I have learned and seeing those strategies in practice.

Q: What are some of the challenges you’ve been experiencing in your work lately? How have you been addressing them?

A: Consistency is key and in these times; that is hard to come by. When it comes to coaching, consistency is critical to success with coachees.

"The certification program at UW took coaching to the next level and provided me with an in-depth dive into being a successful coach."

Q: What led you to apply for the Certificate in Practice-Based Coaching?

A: I am always looking to hone my craft as a coach. There is not a lot of additional information on coaching. I took the basic boot camp for coaching, but then wanted more. The certification program at UW took coaching to the next level and provided me with an in-depth dive into being a successful coach.

Q: What did you learn from the certificate? And how have you applied that in your job going forward?

A: How to build better relationships while coaching and thoroughly move through the coaching cycle with intentionality. Additionally, how to fully consider the perspectives of the people I’m coaching.

Q: What would you say to coaches contemplating taking the Certificate in Practice-Based Coaching?

A: The certification program is a wonderful experience that provides in-depth review of the PBC cycle, and how to be intentional in coaching. The instructors are experienced and have a wealth of knowledge!
